Mike Autry proved through his campaigning efforts for the office of Recorder that he would be one of the hardest working and dedicated Nobles to fill the position. Having visited all the Clubs and Units ofYaarab Shrine during the year of 2004, he was successfully elected Recorder during the annual business meeting, Saturday, January 8, 2005, at the Yaarab Shrine Center.
Mike was bom on August 22, 1944, in Stone Mountain, Georgia. He was educated in the Dekalb County School System, graduating from Stone Mountain High School and Dekalb Technical College, where he successfully completed their Industrial Electricity Course. He worked for Union Camp for 5-1/2 years and in 1969 he went to work for the State of Georgia in the Georgia Building Authority. He was a Senior Electrician and retired in 1991 with 23 years of service. He was an Assistant Supervisor during his last eight years and planned and executed the budget for the electrical department.
Mike and his wife of 28 years, Lynda belong to the First Baptist Church in Stone Mountain. Lynda can always be seen working along side Mike and supports him in every thing he take on. They have one son. Rusty.
Mike as raised a Master Mason in Stone Mountain Lodge #449 in 1975. He also became a York Rite Mason, Scottish Rite Mason and a Yaarab Shrine noble in that same year.
He belongs to Golden Fleece Lodge #6 and is a Charter member of Charity Daylight Lodge #754. He is a Past Master of Stone Mountain Lodge and served as Director of Work. He is Past High Priest of the Royal Arch, Past Illustrious Master of the Coucil and Past Eminent Commander of the Commandery. Mike received the Knight of York in the Luther G. Palmer York Rite College in October 1998. In August 1999, Mike was awarded the Knight of the York Cross of Honor from Cherokee Rose Priory #56, which is the highest honor achievable in the York Rite Body. Mike worked the sound booth at the Scottish Rite for the last four years, as well as, the 14th degree. The Knight of the Double Eagle award was presented to Mike in 1975. He is past president of Stone Mountain Shrine Club, Oriental Band, el hajj, Knights of Mecca, the Order ofQuetzacoatI, SESOB, ASOB, and the Royal Order of Scotland.
For the past eight years, Mike has achieved either the Gold Executive or the Coveted Platinum Executive Aide status, as well as, being appointed personal aide to the Potentate for the past ten years. Through his efforts in collecting money through the "bucket brigade", Mike has earned in excess of 233,000 Crown of Honor Points. He always works the yearly circus selling pork rinds, boiled peanuts, and shrine hats, and is ready to assist in any way for a successful result. He is a very dedicated noble working for our cause, the Shrine Hospitals.
Mike is a hard working Noble and through his many accomplishments, one can clearly see that he is a person the Nobility of Yaarab Shrine can depend on to run any office in a successful manner. His dedication, loyalty, and devotion to our Great Fraternity will prove him to be a positive leader for Yaarab Shrine.
